Assistant Coach - Jim Meissner
Jim Meissner enters his 7th year with the Lions in 2012-13. Jim played youth and junior hockey in Buffalo, NY where he was born and raised and he attended Temple University on a rowing scholarship where he was a part of two national championship teams.
Coach Meissner previously worked in the NHL's Buffalo Sabres front office as a marketing manager and coached high school hockey at his alma mater, St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in Buffalo.
He left Buffalo after the 1996 season and took on a job as a rink manager and hockey director for an ice and inline rink in Albuquerque, NM. While in this position, he coached a Pee-Wee AAA team that was the first team from New Mexico to ever win the Rocky Mountain District Championships. From 1997 to 2001, Meissner served as a head instructor for the Bobby Glantz International Power Skating Schools, where he ran over 50 camps a year around the country, working with numerous minor league and college players.
Meissner has also worked directly with the Los Angeles Kings players on the ice during training camps focusing on improved skating technique to increase speed, quickness, and strength. During the 2000-2001 season, Meissner was also an official in the West Coast Hockey League. He holds a bachelor’s degree in sports administration from Temple.
