Matt Ruml joins the Notre Dame Inaugural ACHA staff with ten years of coaching experience. Ruml started his coaching career as an assistant to Mike Sandnas at Adams High School. Following three seasons, including a 1999 City Championship, Ruml was named Head Coach of South Bend’s AA Bantam Travel Team. Following one season, which included a Shillelagh Tournament Championship, Ruml was named Head Coach of the Michiana Hawks (Midget U-17). During Ruml’s tenure the Hawks won the 2004 State Championship and finished as Mid-Am District runner up in the national advancing tournament. 

In 2007, Ruml joined Tom Sellden’s staff as an assistant for Clay High School. As a teacher at the school, it was important to work with students in extracurricular activities. Following  one year as assistant, Ruml was named Head Coach for the final season of Clay hockey.

Ruml most recently served as the Head Coach of Team Michiana’s U-16 squad. The developmental team won tournaments in Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor.
