Tom Keegan and Don Spencer
Don also chaired the Bob Johnson Awards Committee from 1997-99. The ACHA Volunteer Service Award was established in his name in 2001. Don also facilitated the development and growth of the West Virginia University hockey program.
Don Spencer was a founding member of the ACHA. He served the organization from 1991-1999. His major contribution was chair of the Policy and Procedures Manual Committee. He served on the Board of Directors as Vice President of Men’s DI.
Tom Keegan was a founding member of the ACHA. He was involved in the organization from 1991-1995. Tom was the individual who first saw a need for a national organization for non-varsity collegiate hockey programs. He was a motivator and facilitator during the early developmental years. Tom was the first Executive Director of the ACHA. He proposed the Bob Johnson Award granted annually to the ACHA Division I player for hockey, academics and community service. He has also promoted the American Collegiate Hockey Association in his publication College Hockey Guide.
