UNION LAKE, MI –
Arizona State University is the top ranked team in the 2013-2014 ACHA Men's Division 1 Ranking #19. The Sun Devils improved to 32-2-0 and clinched the inaugural Regular Season Championship of the Western Collegiate Hockey League. #2 Robert Morris Illinois clinched its first-ever Central States Collegiate Hockey League Regular Season Championship by sweeping Lindenwood University, while #3 Oklahoma swept in-state rival #11 Central Oklahoma in a home-and-home series. #4 Liberty cooled off a hot Oakland squad with a sweep in Lynchburg, VA, while Stony Brook climbed into the Top 5 after sweeping Rhode Island. The Seawolves play West Chester this weekend with a chance to win the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League Regular Season Championship.
Big winners in the computer ranking this week were: #12 Davenport (up 4 spots), #18 Buffalo (up 2 spots), and #22 John Carroll (up 3 spots).
Three more teams clinched a berth to the 2014 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championships this past weekend, Robert Morris Illinois, West Virginia, and Syracuse. Robert Morris Illinois clinched the autobid from the Central States Collegiate Hockey League, West Virginia clinched the autobid from College Hockey Mid-America, and Syracuse clinched the autobid from the Northeast Collegiate Hockey League. They join Adrian, Navy, and host Delaware as 6 of the 20 participants. The final 14 teams will be determined after this weekend’s games. It looks like 18 will be the cutoff line, as two teams outside of the Top 20 (Syracuse and West Virginia) have clinched autobids to the 2014 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championships.
Here is how the ranking is going to work using the computers: The ACHA will use the two computer rankings generated by USHSHO.com, Ranking A (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 7) and Ranking B (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 1), and come up with an average of the two rankings. The ACHA will then use the list generated from the average for its weekly ranking. Ties will be broken using the higher ranked team from Ranking A until the Top 25 teams are listed.
The computer ranking will for the first time determine the 20 teams that qualify for the 2014 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championships, which will include the following seven autobids:
- (CSCHL) Central States Collegiate Hockey League- ROBERT MORRIS ILLINOIS
- (CHMA) College Hockey Mid-America- WEST VIRGINIA
- (ECHA) Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association - NAVY
- (ESCHL) Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League
- (GLCHL) Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League - ADRIAN
- (NECHL) Northeast Collegiate Hockey League- SYRACUSE
