UNION LAKE, MI –
Arizona State University remains #1 in the 2013-2014 ACHA Men's Division 1 Ranking #6. The Sun Devils capped off a 3-0 weekend with a pair of wins over Delaware, including a thrilling 3-2 overtime win on Friday night. Minot State University, the defending ACHA Men's Division 1 National Champions, held in the #2 spot after sweeping Colorado State in Minot, ND. With continued wins, it could be a battle of unbeatens for the top spot on November 21 in Tempe, AZ, the lone meeting of the regular season between #1 Arizona State and #2 Minot State. Robert Morris Illinois, the only other team without a loss in regulation, blitzed Indiana over the weekend and bumped up two spots to #3. Delaware managed to get a win over Arizona before leaving the desert and moved into the #4 spot, while Central Oklahoma swept Rutgers in Oklahoma City and rounds out the Top 5.
Big winners in the computer ranking this week were: #21 Buffalo (up 3 spots); #22 Niagara (up 4 spots); and #23 West Virginia (up 3 spots).
Here is how the ranking is going to work using the computers: The ACHA will use the two computer rankings generated by USHSHO.com, Ranking A (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 7) and Ranking B (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 1), and come up with an average of the two rankings. The ACHA will then use the list generated from the average for its weekly ranking. Ties will be broken using the higher ranked team from Ranking A until the Top 25 teams are listed.
The computer ranking will for the first time determine the 20 teams that qualify for the 2014 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championships, which will include the following seven autobids:
- (CSCHL) Central States Collegiate Hockey League
- (CHMA) College Hockey Mid-America
- (ECHA) Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association
- (ESCHL) Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League
- (GLCHL) Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League
- (NECHL) Northeast Collegiate Hockey League
- (HOST) Delaware
