Second Ranking

Liberty Takes the top spot in time for the Holidays

 Liberty takes top spot

Liberty University, sporting a 14-1-0-0 record takes over as the number one ranked ACHA Division 1 team.  Liberty had three, count them three... 2-1, 3-0, & 3-1 hard fought victories over the University of Colorado before it took to Christmas break.  Liberty finished with 6 of the 13 First place votes.  Congratulations to Coach Paul Bloomfield and the Lady Flames.
A week after being ranked at the 10th spot, Minnesota paid a trip to the East and handed URI its first loss of the season 3-2, beating UMASS 3-1, tying Northeastern 4-4 and then edging URI again in OT As expected, the University of Minnesota was the big mover this ranking period..   Minnesota received 4 first place votes and finished ranked second with an 8-1-1-0 record. The University of Rhode Island is currently ranked third with a 12-2-0-1 record, falling from the top spot this time around, URI battled Minnesota twice and was upset at home versus ECWHL rival UMASS.  Robert Morris University is currently ranked 4th, Robert Morris with a 17-1-1-0 mark, seems to have some doubters this year; they look to change that in January.  And rounding out the top five is University of Michigan with a 9-1-2-1 record.

Again with only eight teams making it to DC this year, every ranking is crucial to all, especially as you vote from 6 to 8…  this ranking Northeastern finishes sixth, UMASS moves from a 14 ranking to 7 with a big 2-0 win over URI, and Grand Valley finishes the top eight…  Michigan State, right now on the outside looking in, not a familiar site for them and Colorado State rounds out the top ten…

11, 12, and 13 are separated by a total of three points… Ohio State with 116 ranking points, University of Miami with 117 points, and Adrian College with 119…  Wisconsin ranks 14 and the University of Vermont takes the 15t h     Buffalo also got votes and could make a move to break into the rankings in 2013!

Although there won’t be many games between now and the next ranking on January 27th, stay tuned for what could be the most intriguing finish to rankings in several years. With the University of Michigan heading East to play UMASS and Northeastern, Robert Morris heads east to play UMASS and URI three times, Liberty entertains an upset minded Miami and then heads to Chicago to face off versus Robert Morris.  Michigan State plays Ohio State twice and then faces off against Miami… this could all make for a very interesting 2013!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all….
