SUNDAY - The women will play Finland at 8 AM EST, while the men will play against Slovakia at 9 AM EST.

Erzurum, Turkey is in the Eastern European Time (EET) zone, which is:

9:30 AM (2:30 AM EST) - Women: Slovakia 5, Team USA 1

The Women's team played its first-ever game at the Winter World University Games on Thursday and lost to Slovakia 5-1.  The Slovak team finished in 4th place in the 2009 WUG in Harbin, China.

The Women's team pounded the host Turkish team 15-0, for its first-ever win at the Winter World University Games.  Team USA only allowed 2 shots on goal against.  Justine Ducie led the way with a 7-point game.

8:00 PM (1:00 PM EST)  - Men: Kazakhstan 5, Team USA 0

The Men's debut was a tough one as they were shutout by Kazakhstan 5-0.  Penalties and the penalty kill were a problem as the Kazaks scored 3 goals with the man-advantage.  Erik Hudson started and took the loss in goal.

3:00 PM (8:00 AM EST)  - Women: Finland 3, Team USA 1 (empty net goal).

The Women battled hard, but the offense was tough to come by.  Heather Rossi was solid in net for USA with 36 saves.  Team USA scored to make it a one-goal game with under 3 minutes to go, but were unable to get the equalizer with Rossi pulled.

4:00 PM (9:00 AM EST)  - Men: Team USA 7, Slovakia 3

The Men finally scored...and scored....and scored again beating Slovakia soundly 7-3.  Dan Pyne got the start and win making 23 saves for USA.  Mike Macari had 2 goals, and USA got 2 power-play goals and 1 shorthanded goal.

The women got worked over by the Canadian team, giving up 35 shots and 7 goals in the first two periods.  The women now need a win over Great Britain to make the semi-finals....for a likely rematch with Canada.

Well, after watching the Spanish goalie make 67 saves against Kazakstan in a 2-0 loss, the USA knew it would be a grind.  After two scoreless periods, the pressure mounted on the USA, as a loss would probably eliminate them from the medal round.  But a 4-goal outburst in the 3rd gave the USA a 4-1 win and sends them into the quarter-finals on Thursday.

The game was never in doubt as the women pumped 51 shots on goal and poured in 8 goals by 8 different players.  Katie Vaughan stopped 11 of 12 shots for the win.

QUARTER-FINALS
7:00 PM (12:00 PM EST)   - Men: #2 Belarus 6, #7 Team USA 3 (empty net goal)

The men gave Belarus everything they could handle but still came up short.  After coming back from a 3-1 deficit in the 2nd to tie it, USA had a golden opportunity to go in front with a 5-on-3 power play for 1:18.  Instead, Belarus got their own 5-on-3 power play and broke the tie just 43 seconds into the 3rd period.  USA could not get the equalizer, and with 1:12 left an empty net goal secured the win for Belarus.

SEMI-FINALS
8:00 PM (1:00 PM EST)  - Women: #1 Canada 8, #4 Team USA 1

Nothing much different from the first meeting with Canada, as they outshot USA 56-7 and dominated from start to finish.  USA will play for the Bronze Medal against Slovakia now. 

RELEGATION ROUND
3:00 PM (8:00 AM EST) - Men: #7 Team USA 5, #6 Japan 3

Japan worked over Team USA for the first 30 minutes of the game, but goalie Erik Hudson withstood the attack, allowing his teammates to wake up in time to grab a 4-1 lead, before holding off Japan for the 5-3.  The win puts USA in the 5th place game against Slovakia.

BRONZE MEDAL GAME
9:30 AM (2:30 AM EST) - Women: #3 Slovakia 3, #4 Team USA 1
The women outplayed Slovakia looking to secure the Bronze Medal, but their achilles heel, scoring goals, reared its ugly head again.  Only a late goal with 1:25 left kept USA from being shutout.  In 5 games against the other semi-finalists, USA was outscored 4-28.  USA finishes in 4th place in its first appearance the World University Games.

8:00 PM (1:00 PM EST) - Men: #5 Slovakia 4, Team USA 3

CHICAGO, IL - Members of the 2011 Men's and Women's National University Teams arrived in Chicago, IL on Friday, January 21 to prepare for the upcoming Winter World University Games in Erzurum, Turkey.

Each team will have 2 practices and 2 games before departing on Monday, January 24 for Erzurum, Turkey.  4 flights and nearly 22 hours later, the team will finally touch down in Erzurum, Turkey.


Exhibition games this weekend in Chicago, IL are as follows:
