VERMONT DISPATCHES TEAM USA 7-1 WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT GUTTERSON FIELDHOUSE IN FINAL GAME OF TRIP



 

Members of the 2011 United States Men's National University Team are in Burlington, VT to prepare for it's 3-game exhibition series.  The majority of the team departed from Detroit, MI late on Christmas Day.  The team arrived in Burlington, VT around 2:35 PM EST. 

The team practiced on Sunday night and again Monday morning before boarding the bus for the 90-minute ride down to Rutland, VT for its first game against Castleton State College.

Team USA defeated Castleton State 5-4 in overtime on Monday night.  The Spartans are currently ranked #14 in the NCAA Division III rankings, and recently upset #4 Norwich 3-2 in OT in its last game on December 11.

Tuesday, December 28  brought the third team practice in a span of 38 hours. 

On Tuesday night, St. Michael's defeated Team USA 3-2.  St. Michael's scored on its first shot on goal, and converted on both power-play attemps on a 5-on-3, scoring 19 seconds apart.  Brandon Contratto and Tom Ciaverilla scored the goals for Team USA.  Goaltending was the story in the 3rd period as Team USA looked for the equalizer, storming the Purple Knights with 21 shots on goal.  Final shots were 46-27 for Team USA.

After one last practice, Team USA played its final game of the trip on Wednesday, December 29 at 8:00 PM against the University of Vermont. 


Vermont defeated Team USA 7-1, outshooting them 50-30 in front of 3,508 at Gutterson Fieldhouse.  Kevin Kranker got the lone tally for Team USA, burying a shot from in the slot under the crossbar off a feed from Tom Ciaverilla.

Erik Hudson stopped 25 of 28 shots, while Dan Pyne stopped 18 of 22 shots.

The team departed for home at 11:15 pm.  The team will reconvene in Chicago, IL on Friday, January 21, playing 2 more exhibition games before departing for Turkey and the WUG Games.
